Paprika

Paprika is sci-fi kind of adventure movie in which a few scientists have created a machine that will allow the users to share each others dreams. We find that, however, one of them has been stolen and the scientists quickly realize how powerful it really is for one to be able to control other's dreams as the movie revisits dream world/reality themes.

I don't really know exactly how to word this review other than Paprika was an all around good movie. The soundtrack throughout the movie is great and rather catchy. There are a lot of memorable scenes throughout the film and really fun despite having the plot being a little hard to follow at some points. Director Kon actually commented on the plot saying that it was"... more an experience one should have rather than try to understand, much like a dream."

I would akin this to a movie that you get talked into going to, but after watching, you aren't feeling cheated or annoyed that it was as lack luster as you thought it would be (COUGHAlice in WonderlandACk). Instead the plot moves right along whether you are with it or not, and visually impressive, particularly where cg and 2d cell animation mix. I wouldn't call this a personal movie, or a thought provoking one, but it is a good sci-fi with some great creative visuals behind it.
The only thing that pulls this movie down is how just a few of the characters act and relate towards one another. It doesn't seem very real, and their development at characters is also a sort of sub par. However, visually, the movie is a huge success.

Edit from a day after watching it and I still have the music stuck in my head. Is definitely in the B+ to A range.
