For some reason there is a large lack of good pictures for this series, so here's a video. I really like the opening theme. It accurately matches everything.
Air Gear is not a serious series. The plot is loose, and you just roll with it after a while. It IS funny though. Some how the writer/author did an amazing job at writing what "middle" school guys/ girls would say to each other. Unfortunately about 30% of the swearing is pulled out from the japanese sub, and the manga, so at times it seems a little watered down. This is not a series you watch and look for philosophy. All you would find is exaggerated females, hilarious main and secondary characters, and for inside joke sakes, when it comes to having female decency "they don't even try". It is also better to, as a general rule, not ever listen to the bio's given for anime characters. There are 3 ages for anime characters. Children, College age, and Aged old. Example of "not trying" from the manga.
That aside, it all some how works out. The plot is simple. In Japan, new electric rollerblades have come out that have a little engine in them. Think rollerblades plus segway. It's a cool idea. Now kids are swapping out their engines for more powerful ones and can skate up buildings, verticals, do insane tricks, race, fly.
That is the heart of this series to fly. To be free through these "Air treks". Pacing goes smoothly, and the anime covers a pretty small amount of the actual manga by now as the manga is still going. There are about 18 or 20 episodes, and there isn't much more to say about the series.
Hilarious, a good break from the serious as this one isn't at all.
Real, and yet completely fictional at the same time. The main characters make this show.
And actually, the art is pretty good. There's some parts where backgrounds are done quite well, and faces are distinct and unique, and not pointy with huge huge eyes.
