Halo Legends
The idea is perfect. As described in this blog, animation is a great medium in which to portray things when you don't need to worry about CG, what is biologically or chemically possible, or if an actor can physically do something. You just draw it. All these things work in Halo's favor. As a HUGE fan of the Halo series my joy was almost unmatched at the announcement of an undertaking with the watchful eye of Frank(ie) O'conner, the beloved ex-bungie employee who has worked to help write what is now known as halo, as well as give us weekly updates. Now the head of Microsoft's 343 Industries, a branch that manages Mircrosoft created Halo merchandise and affairs besides Bungie, things looked promising.
The result is mixed. Halo Legends is a collection of shorts done by sever big name animation studios and companies. Some of these are good, others are plagued by a few problems, and one in particular I don't understand the idea to make it at all.
What I was hoping for was an expansion of cannon, a better way of showing the ferocity of the wars that ravage mankind during the Covenant/Human war, and that air of mystery that feels and smells like halo. I will add to this incase the actual DVD has more episodes than have been released. It is also hard to say if even some of the more legitimate episodes are entirely cannon. At this point I may have to re-research just how many known SPARTAN-II's there actually are and if these characters fit, or exist to tell a story.
Here are some pics of a few of the series and styles until I write more.
