Afro Samurai

Inspired by soul and hip hop, Afro Samurai is a manga that made its way to a full length animated movie. Rich of a certain style, and set in a mix between feudal, and futuristic (ie: robots and missile launcher things) this is a story that although makes sense inside the anime, is one that you just have to roll with to get the most out of this series. RZA and the Wu-Tang Clan does the soundtrack for the entire movie, and I must say that it worked very well, and honestly gave me a more positive view on that particular music genre.

Known only as Afro, and having his father killed before him, it is his life goal to avenge his father and reclaim the Number One Headband. He who has the Number One Headband is something of a god. Only one with the Number Two Headband can challenge him. However, anyone can challenge, or defeat the Number Two. After gathering the Number Two, Afro sets his path for the Number One, letting nothing stand in his way. That is really all the plot that needs explaining. From that point on it is just gore-y fight scene after another. Technically, this movie is very good. Voices, visuals, action is all very well done. The story is the weakest bit, but after about twenty minutes you don't care. Very flashy, very cool, Afro Samurai is a good action/adventure story and another anime movie that people will have expected you to be aware of.
